In the diagnosis and management of adult upper-extremity fractures, the rapidly evolving nature of clinical practice compelled us to produce an up-to-date, evidence-based, and practical reference. Current Concepts in Adult Upper Extremity Fractures is the outcome of that need. Together with my esteemed colleagues Dr. Eralp Erdoğan, Dr. Cihan Ergün, and Dr. Zafer Güneş on the editorial board, we addressed the topic within a seamless continuum of care—from the emergency department to rehabilitation. The aim of this volume is to provide orthopedic surgeons and residents with a guide that informs decision-making while balancing scientific rigor with operative and real-world practicality.

The content is organized into seven sections that proceed from the shoulder girdle to the elbow and forearm, the wrist and hand, and then to rehabilitation protocols and recent advances. This structure offers the reader both an anatomic-regional flow and a clinical framework that preserves the integrity of the treatment pathway. The diligence of our section editors and the real-world experience of our authors enhance the practical applicability of the chapters.

This book presents not only surgical techniques but also emergency management, imaging strategies, nonoperative treatment, indications for arthroplasty, pain management, and functional outcome assessment in a coherent, systematic manner. The rehabilitation sections are deliberately practice-oriented, with fracture-specific protocols and complication-prevention strategies. In this way, all links in multidisciplinary care—from first presentation to final functional recovery—are made explicit.

I extend my thanks to all section editors and authors who contributed to this volume. Our common goal is to deliver the right treatment to the right patient at the right time. Along this path, methodological simplicity, the current and critical use of the literature, and recommendations tailored to real-world conditions form the backbone of the book. We hope to further strengthen that backbone with readers’ feedback and to broaden the scope in subsequent editions.

I am grateful to the publisher and technical team for their dedicated work during the publication process, and to all colleagues who supported the project from planning to final proof-reading. It is also a particular source of pride that the first edition has been published in Ankara in September 2025 as a locally generated contribution that creates added value.
