Natural Disasters and Older Adults
Natural disasters are a reality of life throughout human history, impacting people worldwide with serious and unavoidable events. Unfortunately, the effects of these disasters can be deeper and more long-lasting, especially for elderly individuals. However, the risks that elderly individuals face during natural disasters may be overlooked.
Elderly individuals are vulnerable to the effects of natural disasters. Factors such as physical challenges, loss of mobility, chronic health issues, and social isolation make the elderly more susceptible to risks during and after disasters. Additionally, the stress and uncertainty brought about by natural disasters can have psychological effects on elderly individuals.
Our book aims to provide professionals in this field with a comprehensive understanding of the effects of natural disasters on the elderly and to enable them to better assist. Created with contributions from various academic disciplines, this resource aims to develop more effective disaster management strategies and provide guidance for practices that meet the needs of the elderly.
Understanding the needs of the elderly and providing them with appropriate support and services is important for building safer and more resilient communities.
