Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the leading causes of vision loss, particularly in older individuals. It affects millions of people worldwide, in both dry and wet forms. The current treatment of AMD has made significant progress, especially in the wet form, with the advent of anti-VEGF therapies. However, the lack of an effective treatment for dry AMD further underscores the importance of research in this area. Today, innovative approaches such as gene therapy, stem cell therapy, nanotechnology, and pharmacogenetics have emerged as promising developments in AMD treatment.
This book aims to compile current information on age-related macular degeneration, including diagnostic methods, treatment approaches, and innovative research. The content of the book presents up-to-date knowledge on a wide range of topics, from the basic mechanisms of AMD to diagnostic techniques and treatment strategies. Research on both dry and wet forms of AMD, new treatment methods, and innovative approaches such as gene therapy, stem cell therapy, and nanotechnology are also discussed.
