Cataract surgery is one of the most frequently performed surgical procedures in the world. The application of intraocular lenses (IOLs) instead of the crystalline lens is one of the most important stages in modern cataract surgery.

In this book of Türkiye Klinikleri titled “Current Status of Intraocular Lenses in Cataract Surgery”, our aim is to present all the features of IOLs used in cataract surgery, current practices and innovations in this field, along with current literature.

The first part of this book; discusses the basic features of IOLs used in cataract surgery and the biometric formulas used in IOL calculation. We also share the features of new and updated IOLs produced with developing technology, supported by current literature data.

Our book also includes IOL applications in cataract surgery for specific cases, such as ”Secondary IOL Applications After Cataract Surgery”, “IOL Selection in Cataract Surgery in Eyes That Have Had Refractive Surgery” and ”Pediatric IOLs in Cataract Surgery”.

The “Future of IOLs in Cataract Surgery” section covers IOLs and their features that may find application in cataract surgery in the future.

Additionally, we have included information on monovision, mini-monovision and mix-and-match applications in a separate section, as these are important for achieving visual results and meeting patient expectations in cataract surgery.

Our book also covers secondary IOL applications used to correct aphakia that occurs for different reasons after cataract surgery.

On behalf of Turkish Ophthalmology, I would like to express my gratitude to my esteemed teacher, Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk YILMAZ, who initiated and pioneered the development of posterior chamber IOL application in modern cataract surgery in our country, on the occasion of the publication of this valuable work related to cataract surgery.

Finally, I would like to thank all the authors who contributed to the creation of this book for sharing their knowledge and experiences. I am grateful to Türkiye Klinikleri chief editor Prof. Dr. Hikmet AKGÜL and all Türkiye Klinikleri employees for providing us with this opportunity. I hope you enjoy reading this book and that it contributes to the knowledge and practices of our esteemed colleagues.

Kind regards.
