The advancement of technology, new inventions, and globalization have introduced many innovations into our lives. The rapid consumption and everything contributing to it have returned to our world as environmental pollution. Plastic usage, which started in the 1950s, rapidly increased due to its easy accessibility and its ability to serve in every field. The term ‘Microplastic,’ defined in 2004, is now seen by researchers as invaders that have spread uncontrollably, processed into our cells, and cannot be abandoned for many reasons, with harms exceeding what can be predicted.

Microplastics are tiny particles of plastic that can originate from various sources. The widespread prevalence of microplastic pollution has raised concerns about its potential risks and impacts on the global environment. However, the potential human health risks and impacts of microplastics remain largely unexplored.

While there is not yet complete information on the potential health effects of exposure to microplastics, ongoing research is being conducted on their impact on the environment and personal health. Increased awareness and research are needed regarding exposure to microplastics in dental practices.

This book examines the interaction between microplastics and human health from a general health perspective, while also emphasizing how dental practices may play a role in exposure to microplastics.
