Dear colleagues;

Developments observed in the last decade regarding central nervous system tumors, partic- ularly gliomas, have significantly altered both diagnosis and treatment protocols. Molecular and genetic markers have come to the forefront in the diagnostic process, overshadowing histopathology and directly influencing tumor classification and treatment strategies. While the philosophical approach defined by onco-functional balance has been tailored for the treat- ment process, we believe this approach should be embraced from the initial stages of diag- nosis. Emphasizing the patient’s quality of life, it is crucial to diagnose at the right time with minimal intervention when necessary, or to set broad treatment goals such as supratotal re- section, followed by appropriate adjuvant therapies to sustain the process. Keeping abreast of developments in the current literature is essential in this regard.

With the esteemed invitation from Türkiye Klinikleri, we aim to compile today’s advancements in the aforementioned areas under the title “Glial Tumours: Expectations from Today- Promises of the Future”. The primary aim has been to ensure that the articles, each carefully prepared by scientists who are experts in their field, reflect the current state of gliomas, the basic characteristics, advantages and shortcomings of daily practical applications, and serve as a guide for all researchers who continue their studies in this field for the future.

In the 77th year since neurosurgery was accepted as a separate specialty in Türkiye, it is a mat- ter of pride to observe that diagnosis and treatment processes can be provided at world stan- dards, and sometimes even above these standards. In addition to the Turkish neurosurgeons who have contributed to this pride, we respectfully commemorate our colleagues, especially basic medical scientists and neuroscientists, as well as radiologists, pathologists, medical on- cologists and radiation oncologists, who constitute the members of a unique whole.

While we express our gratitude to all our colleagues who contributed to this book, we would like to reiterate our belief that the practice of medicine, in the light of science, contemporary and worthy of our republic, will continue in the future.
