Dear Colleagues,
Thyroid and parathyroid diseases are among the important health problems worldwide and in Turkey. Thyroid nodules are a common condition worldwide and in Turkey. In Turkey, approx- imately 40% of the population and 60% of women have thyroid nodules of various sizes. 95% of these nodules are usually benign and 5% carry the risk of thyroid cancer. Hypothyroidism occurs as a result of inadequate thyroid function. Hypothyroidism is seen in approximately 20% of women around the age of 40 in Turkey. Thyroid cancer is seen in 2% of all cancers in women and 0.5% in men. Primary hyperparathyroidism and hypoparathyroidism are the most common parathyroid diseases. They are diseases seen worldwide and in Turkey that cause increased or decreased cal- cium levels in the blood as a result of excessive or underactive parathyroid glands. The cause of the disease is usually parathy- roid adenoma, and all adenomas must be removed for treatment. In the presence of these diseases Turkey is among the countries of North America, China, Australia, Italy, Ukraine and Germany with a prevalence of 7.8%. As a result, thyroid and parathyroid diseases are common worldwide and in Turkey, and early diagno- sis and treatment are of great importance.
This book aims to provide a comprehensive resource includ- ing anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, clinical evaluation-di- agnosis, medical and surgical treatment methods, management of thyroid and parathyroid diseases in recurrent cases, multidisci- plinary approach, genetic and molecular diagnostic methods in thyroid diseases and genetic molecular markers in parathyroid diseases. Each section of the book is created with the medical experience and academic knowledge of competent internal medi- cine, surgery and genetic doctors in their respective fields.
Yours sincerely,
