ABSTRACT

Threedimensional (3D) printing, also referred to as additive manufacturing, has significantly trans formed various sectors, including dentistry. In contrast to traditional subtractive manufacturing, 3D printing constructs objects incrementally, layer by layer, facilitating the creation of intricate and tailored structures. This study explores the historical evolution of 3D printing, emphasizing pivotal advance ments such as stereolithography (SlA), selective laser sintering (SlS), and fused deposition modeling (FDM). In the field of dentistry, 3D printing has markedly enhanced the precision, efficiency, and customization of dental restorations, prostheses, and implants. Techniques such as stereolithography, digital light processing (DlP), and selective laser melting (SlM) have been utilized to produce den tal models, surgical guides, and patientspecific prostheses. The integration of computeraided design (CAD) and computeraided manufacturing (CAM) has further refined the precision of digital dentistry. Despite these advancements, challenges persist, including material limitations, surface roughness, and regulatory constraints. Future advancements in biomaterials and bioprinting offer significant potential in tissue engineering and regenerative dentistry. This study highlights the transformative impact of 3D printing in dentistry and its potential to enhance patient care and clinical outcomes.
