ABSTRACT
Adrenal insufficiency is a rare disease that is often not detected in emergency departments. Despite its low incidence, it has a high mortality rate, which is mainly due to delayed diagnosis and treatment. Clinical suspicion is the first step in diagnosing adrenal insufficiency, which can have a wide range of etiological causes. Initial treatment is common in primary or secondary adrenal insufficiency. This article provides current information on the pathophysiology, aetiology, diagnosis, and treatment of adrenal insufficiency, as well as the emergency department approach.
