ABSTRACT

Radial head fractures are common injuries, particularly in cases of elbow trauma. Radius head fractures account for 1.7-5.4% of all upper extremity fractures and 33-75% of elbow fractures. These fractures typically arise from a direct impact, a fall, or a sudden twisting motion. The radial head is crucial for stabilization under longitudinal and valgus load; lesions in this region can result in significant functional impairment. Treatment alternatives comprise conservative approaches, surgical fixation, and sophisticated techniques such as radial head excision and arthroplasty. Arthroplasty has emerged as a favored approach for treating radial head fractures in recent years, serving as a significant treatment option, particularly for difficult and comminuted fractures. This section will provide a comprehensive examination of the anatomy, classification, indications for arthroplasty, surgical procedures, and problems associated with radial head fractures.
