ABSTRACT
Anaphylaxis is a sudden and potentially life-threatening systemic reaction. Acute interventions and long-term prevention strategies are vital in managing this serious condition. Identifying and avoiding specific allergens and non-immunological triggers in pediatric patients constitutes the basis of secondary prevention. In this section, current, practical, and evidence-based approaches to preventing and protecting against primary anaphylaxis triggers-such as foods, drugs, bee venom, latex, exercise, and pollen-are comprehensively reviewed. Avoidance strategies should be individualised according to the child’s sensitivity profile, clinical history, and environmental risk factors. Developing label-reading habits, preventing cross-contamination, implementing school and social safety measures, planning alternative medications, considering immunotherapy options, applying desensitisation protocols, and reducing environmental exposures are all essential elements in this context. Ensuring the accessibility of epinephrine auto-injectors, educating patients and caregivers, and establishing anaphylaxis action plans are all crucial steps in preventing potentially severe reactions. To improve the quality of life for children who have experienced anaphylaxis and to prevent recurrence, proper identification of risk factors, consistent application of avoidance strategies, and a multidisciplinary follow-up approach are necessary. With appropriate avoidance and protection measures, children with a history of anaphylaxis can lead safe and healthy lives.
