ABSTRACT
Burn injuries are major traumas that can cause serious physical, psychological and social problems. A report by the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that around 11 million people worldwide suffered burn injuries in 2016. Although the spread of specialized burn centers in developed countries and the progress made in resuscitation and wound care have yielded positive results, burn treatment still poses serious challenges for patients, their families and governments. Burns remain a serious public health problem in societies with low socioeconomic status. A significant portion of the incidents resulting in burns are preventable accidents. That’s why, education, increased awareness on the subject, and some physical arrangements to be made in environments where there is a risk of accidents will ensure that burn cases are less common.
