ABSTRACT
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic disease that is not fully reversible, is characterized by airflow limitation, and can be prevented and treated. The aim of COPD treatment is to prevent disease progression and acute attacks, relieve symptoms, reduce complications, increase exercise tolerance and improve quality of life. Drug treatment in COPD is basically symptomatic and requires rational use of drugs. Irrational drug use causes morbidity and mortality in COPD, as in other chronic diseases. COPD patients experience medication compliance problems due to reasons such as insufficient or no drug education, cognitive or physical disabilities of the patients, differences in the education and sociocultural levels of the patients, not selecting the appropriate device for the patient, and misuse. In this article, COPD and rational drug use are presented in the context of nursing practice.

Keywords: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease treatment; nursing care; rational drug use
