ABSTRACT

Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is an inflammatory disease of the skin that is caused by a type 4 hypersensitivity reaction. The most common clinical feature of acute ACD is eczematous dermatitis. In contrast to the classic picture, non-eczematous types of ACD such as erythema-multiformelike, lichenoid, purpuric, bullous, pigmented, lymphomatoid, granulomatous or pustular ACD have also been reported. Histopathology of ACD shows lymphocytic perivascular infiltration, dense dermal edema, epidermal spongiosis and exocytosis in the dermis, while epidermal hyperplasia is more prominent in chronic lesions.
