ABSTRACT
The number of women who undergo urogynaecological surgery throughout their lives is considerable. Since the majority of women with indications for urogynaecological surgery are in the post-menopausal period, they have all the surgical risks of advanced age and menopausal period. Although complications of urogynaecological surgery are not very common, they are important complications that affect the whole life of women in terms of social, physical and psychological aspects. Delay in diagnosis may cause serious morbidity and mortality. Complications can be eliminated without the need for surgery or with simple surgery thanks to early diagnosis. However, complicated and repeated surgeries may be required in late diagnosed complications. Prevention of complications is as important as the treatment of complications. Therefore, patients should be evaluated and informed preoperatively and the right surgical procedure should be applied to the right indication. In unforeseen and unpreventable complications, accurate and timely diagnosis is decisive in treatment and management. Complications of urogynaecological surgery may be observed during surgery or may be observed in years after surgery. The most important problem in the management of complications is that they may require repeated surgeries. It should be kept in mind that the first surgical treatment by experienced and skilled surgeons has the highest chance of success. Today, many procedures and new techniques have been defined for conservative and surgical treatment of complications. However, the best treatment will be the management decided by a multidisciplinary team and the patient together and the urogynaecologist will be the most experienced and successful.
