ABSTRACT
Radiology has become a fundamental component of critical care medicine that facilitating the diagnosis and management of the most complex and life-threatening conditions. This chapter will examine the role of advanced imaging modalities in the intensive care unit (ICU), particularly computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These advanced imaging techniques have become indispensable tools for critical care physicians, enabling the detection of subtle anatomic and pathologic changes, assessment of disease progression, and therapeutic responses in patients with life-threatening conditions. Effective collaboration between radiologists and intensivists is essential to optimizing diagnostic accuracy and clinical outcomes. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the evolving roles of CT and MRI in advancing patient care and shaping the future of radiologic practice in the ICU, highlighting the key contributions of CT and MRI.
