ABSTRACT
The cornea is the transparent structure located in the front part of the eye and provides 2/3 of the total refractive power of the eye. Corneal diseases are important for visual acuity since it is the medium where light reaching the eye is first refracted and transmits light to the retina. Especially congenital anomalies rapidly lead to amblyopia in infants, therefore early diagnosis and treatment play a critical role in the lives of patients. In this section, we aimed to compile congenital anomalies related to the shape and size of the cornea, developmental anomalies in the embryological period affecting the peripheral and central parts, and infantile corneal opacity-causing diseases.
Keywords: Congenital anomalies of the cornea; keratoglobus; Peters anomaly; posterior embryotoxon; sclerocornea
