ABSTRACT

The global elderly population is growing. In developed countries, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are the leading causes of death among older people. Age is an independent risk factor for ve- nous disorders, and venous pathology increases significantly as age progresses. The coronary veins, as part of the venous system, can undergo all the changes seen in the ageing venous system. Additionally, risk factors may affect the coronary venous system, leading to pathological changes over time. Many studies have investigated the effects of ageing on the vasculature. However, research focusing specifi- cally on the effects of ageing on the coronary venous system is very limited. Sufficient research in this area will help to reveal possible risks and improve our understanding of preventable causes.
