ABSTRACT
Tuberculosis occurs due to the bacillus Mycobacterium tuberculosis and affects approximately one quarter of the world’s population. For the control of the disease, The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global emergency in 1993 and recommended that all countries use the Directly Observed Treatment (DGT) approach as the basis for tuberculosis control programs. DGT is a form of treatment in which the patient drinks every dose of the medication accompanied by an officer or person responsible for the entire treatment period and this is recorded. Its effectiveness has been proven in studies and has been implemented in our country since the 1970s. The content of the treatment package prepared for each patient is ensured for the patient to drink at the specified time and place, accompanied by a designated supervisor. The treatment applied is recorded in the DGT information form and followed up.
