ABSTRACT
Structural heart diseases are an important area of interest in cardiology and can be evaluated under two subheadings: acquired and congenital heart diseases. Aortic stenosis, mitral stenosis, mitral regurgitation, tricuspid regurgitation, and paravalvular leaks are among the acquired heart diseases. Congenital heart diseases include pulmonary stenosis, atrial septal defect (ASD), ventricular septal defect (VSD), patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), and coronary fistulas. Although structural heart diseases were predominantly treated surgically in the past, percutaneous/transcatheter treatments are performed by more and more cardiologists with the effect of rapid developments in technology and increasing device quality and diversity, and in some areas, surgical treatment has been surpassed. With the development of imaging techniques, more accurate evaluations are made before the intervention, and the success rate is increasing.
