ABSTRACT

Transcatheter treatment options for structural heart disease (SHD) have improved significantly in recent years. Developments in imaging techniques have also led the way in this process. Echocardiography (ECHO) is at the forefront of these imaging techniques. Developments in ECHO have become an essential tool not only for diagnosis but also for the treatment of SHD. Among these tools, transesophageal ECHO (TOE), three-dimensional (3D) ECHO, and intracardiac ECHO (ICE) have an important place. Thus, a multimodality imaging approach has been established for the perioperative management of SHD. In this section, current echocardiographic imaging techniques used in the diagnosis and treatment of SHD and accompanying percutaneous interventions will be discussed.
