ABSTRACT
Facial paralysis is rare in childhood. Etiology can be divided into two main groups as congenital or acquired. The most common cause of congenital facial paralysis is birth trauma, other causes include developmental causes and congenital structural anomalies. Acquired facial paralysis is mostly idiopathic, but conditions such as underlying infection, inflammation, neoplasia, metabolic diseases, congenital anomalies, trauma should be excluded. A detailed systemic examination should be performed in addition to neurological examination. Diagnostic tests are requested according to clinical, history and physical examination findings. Complete blood count, blood pressure, otoscopic examination and audiological evaluation should be performed in all children, and other tests should be determined according to the physical examination findings. In recurrent cases, there is a high probability of an underlying organic cause. Tumor, leukemia, trauma, vascular causes, infectious and inflammatory causes must be excluded.
