Gastrointestinal Cancers

ABSTRACT

Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers are among the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Proper nu- trition is estimated to prevent a significant portion of cancer cases through the components of food. Various micronutrients are critical for the health of the GI system. Oxidative damage can lead to gene mutations and promote cancer development. The GI system a primary site for antioxidant activity. Antioxidants, particularly micronutrients such as vitamins, zinc, and selenium, are essential for cellular functions and immune support. While these substances do not directly cause or prevent cancer, research has shown that certain micronutri- ents may have the potential to reduce cancer risk or support treatment outcomes. This review aims to explore the roles of specific micronutrients and their potential impacts on GI cancer risk and treatment efficacy.
