ABSTRACT
In this section, we aim to present a historical perspective on the recognition, definition, and significance of reflexes within medical practice. Additionally, we delve into the fascinating life story of Joseph Babinski, the name most prominently associated with reflexes in clinical neurology, offering detailed insights into his remarkable journey. In this chapter, we will also have the opportunity to explore the evolution of the reflex hammer — an indispensable tool for neurologists. We will examine reflexes from biological and physiological perspectives separately, and finally highlight their importance in neurological clinical practice.
