ABSTRACT
The microbiota is a group of organisms that affect the entire body, consisting of beneficial bacteria, viruses, fungi, and archaea found in the gut, lungs, skin, and mouth. The gut microbiota continues to develop until the age of 3 and then changes with lifestyle, environmental and genetic factors, medications, and age. The gut microbiota has immunological, digestion, and protection against harmful pathogens functions. Dysbiosis in the intestinal microbiota has been associated with many diseases in childhood. Microbiota plays an important role in the development, severity, and treatment of childhood diseases. Gut microbiota has been associated with many diseases in children, such as immunological and allergic disorders, autism, epilepsy, asthma, obesity, malnutrition, infantile colic, and heart failure. It is not yet clear how changes in microbiota play a role in the pathogenesis of diseases, and studies are ongoing. The use of probiotics in the prevention and treatment of childhood diseases is also a popular topic and promising.
