ABSTRACT

Hand eczema, one of the most frequent dermatological conditions, comprises a heterogeneous group of disorders caused by acute or chronic inflammation of the hands due to various etiological factors such as contact allergens, irritants, and proteins. It is highly prevalent, and some professions, such as hairdressers and healthcare providers, are at higher risk for hand dermatitis. It is classified according to etiology and clinical features. The mainstay of the treatment for all types of hand eczema is protective measures, i.e., the use of emollients and protective gloves, patient education, and avoidance of relevant allergens. The epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, and management of hand eczema will be discussed in this chapter.
