İmmünoloji, organizmanın enfeksiyonlara ve yabancı maddelere karşı savunma mekanizmalarını inceleyen bilim dalıdır. İmmün sistem, yabancı uyarıcılara karşı vücudun tepkisini içeren karmaşık mekanizmalara sahip olup, bu sistemdeki bozukluklar hayat kalitesini etkileyen hastalıklara yol açabilir. Bu bölüm, immün sistem hücreleri, mekanizmaları ve moleküllerini incelerken doğal ve adaptif immün sistem arasındaki ilişkiyi ele almakta, ayrıca ağız immünolojisi, tükürük immünolojisi, mikrobiyal immünoloji ve otoimmünite kavramlarına bir bakış sunulmaktadır. Buna ek olarak, diş, diş eti ve tükürük bezi hastalıklarının ile ağız kanserleri ve bazı genetik hastalıkların immün yanıtları ele alınmaktadır. Bu hastalıkların immünolojik mekanizmalarını anlamak, etkili tedavi yaklaşımları için önemlidir.
