ABSTRACT
Inflammatory skin diseases may involve nail during clinical course, particularly psoriasis, lichen planus, alopecia areata, autoimmune bullous diseases, eczema. Sometimes these diseases may even present with nail involvement. The findings of the nail vary according to the affected part of the nail. If inflammation is predominantly on the nail bed, findings such as onycholysis, subungual hyperkeratosis, splinter hemorrhage may be present, and if matrix involvement is prominent, findings ranging from pitting, leukonychia, transverse groove to total nail dystrophy may occur. Although nail findings of inflammatory skin diseases are generally similar, in some cases, nail findings may play a key role in the differential diagnosis as in patients with erythrodermia presenting at the time of initial presentation and who cannot provide clear information about previous skin diseases. For this reason, nail findings of inflammatory nail diseases are an issue that must be known.
