ABSTRACT

Lung cancer is the leading cancer in terms of incidence and mortality. Although smoking is still the primary risk factor for its development, the role of environmental factors, especially diet and metabolic pathways, is increasingly being investigated. Micronutrients are essential nutrients that organisms need in varying amounts to regulate the physiological functions of cells and organs. Their different effects on the development, car- cinogenesis, prognosis, treatment and side effects of lung cancer are being studied. Although the findings are not consistent for many micronutrient subtypes, the general findings are that vitamin A derivatives increase the risk of lung cancer development, inadequate vitamin D level is a negative factor in the development of the disease, treatment success and side effect management, and high serum ferritin levels may be a marker of poor prognosis.
