ABSTRACT
Pregnancy is a significant turning point that has both physical and emotional effects on women. In this process, the expectant mother needs to have a healthy psychological state and physical well-being. Psychological well-being affects both maternal and fetal outcomes and the mother’s emotions and behaviors. Recognizing the psychological problems experienced by the expectant mother at an early stage and providing the necessary support can improve the long-term outcomes of the mother and the baby.
This chapter explores the psychological aspects of pregnancy and provides strategies for healthcare professionals to support mental health throughout the trimesters. Common stressors during pregnancy include body image concerns, sleep disturbances, fear of labor, mortality awareness, relationship dynamics, and financial or social stressors. Hormonal changes, role transitions, and parenting anxieties also play significant roles.
By fostering a positive body image, addressing fears empathetically, promoting supportive relationships, and managing external stressors, healthcare professionals help expectant mothers manage these challenges. Thanks to this holistic approach to the pregnancy period, this meaningful journey is ensured to be healthier and happier.
