ABSTRACT
Malocclusion, the misalignment of teeth, is a common dental issue observed in laboratory animals. The main factors leadinging to this problem are genetic factors, nutritional problems, injuries, and chewing habits. Malocclusion can lead to health problems ranging from difficulty in eating to general deterioration of health. This poses challenges to laboratory research by affecting animal health, behavior, and research outcomes. Reviewing dietary habits, considering genetic factors and proper monitoring are important for prevention and effective treatment. The general guideline of the treatment is to control the crown height and tooth extraction. Trimming or reduction could be applied at a certain period, preferably every three to eight weeks until the normal occlusion is established. For the treatment, routine use of general anesthesia is recommended, pre-operative and a post-operative X‐ray should be obtained.
