ABSTRACT

Contact dermatitis, encompassing irritant and/or allergic types, involves inflammatory reactions upon exposure to irritants and sensitizing agents. The evaluation involves a meticulous medical history and examination, with patch tests serving as the gold standard for diagnosing allergic contact dermatitis. Treatment focuses on allergen identification, and in cases of irritant contact dermatitis, identifying and eliminating specific irritants is essential. Airborne contact dermatitis occurs through exposure to various allergens, especially in occupational settings, necessitating a comprehensive diagnostic approach. Protein contact dermatitis is primarily related with occupational in the food sector, involves skin exposure to proteins. Systemic contact dermatitis is rare and results from systemic exposure to contact allergens, necessitating careful diagnosis and allergen-specific interventions. Photocontact dermatitis, caused by photosensitizing sensitizers and UV radiation, requires identification of specific photoallergens. Overall, managing contact dermatitis involves precise diagnosis, targeted interventions, and patient education, emphasizing the importance of allergen avoidance.
