ABSTRACT
Immune cells are vital to defense mechanisms against infections and cancerous growth. When these cells recognize signs of danger, they become activated, triggering a cascade of significant alterations in immune responses. Recent studies have revealed that immune cell stimulation also causes metabolic alterations that profoundly affect immune cell activities. Immune cells are strongly affected by metabolic reprogramming, which is significant given their critical role in the growth of malignancies. Thus, it is critical to investigate whether immune cells undergo comparable metabolic reprogramming in the tumor microenvironment and the implications of how metabolic reprogramming affects cancer progression. This study provides a summary of the metabolic reprogramming of immune cells, highlighting the principal pathways involved and their impact on tumor progression.
