ABSTRACT
Careful examination of the fingernails and toenails can give important clues for the underlying systemic diseases. Therefore, the examination of the nails should be an integral part of a complete dermatological examination. Some nail changes may occur before other symptoms of a systemic disease. Since the symptoms on the toenails can be confused with trauma, hand nails usually provide more accurate information.
