ABSTRACT
While approximately 10% of newborns require respiratory support immediately after birth, nearly 1% necessitate advanced resuscitation. Typically, interventions for these newborns are conducted in the delivery room immediately following birth. However, in certain instances, rapid births may occur, resulting in deliveries taking place in the emergency department. Alternatively, births may happen en route to the hospital, with the emergency department becoming the initial point of care for the newborn. Furthermore, newborns may present at the emergency department due to post-discharge complications. In the current guidelines issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association, there is a strong emphasis on the utilization of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program throughout the neonatal period. All physicians working in emergency departments are mandated to undergo Neonatal Resuscitation Program training and regularly update their skills and knowledge. In this chapter, we will delve into the topic of neonatal resuscitation for newborns admitted to the emergency department.
