ABSTRACT

Distal humerus fractures are rare and complex injuries, and their management has evolved significantly over time. This article discusses the conservative treatment options for these fractures, particularly in cases involving non-displaced fractures, elderly osteoporotic patients, or individuals unsuitable for surgical intervention. The conservative methods include closed reduction and long-arm casting, skeletal traction through the olecranon, and the historical “bag of bones” technique. Each method has specific indications, benefits, and challenges, particularly in terms of patient compliance and recovery. Although surgical treatment is preferred in most cases, conservative approaches remain relevant in specific patient populations. This article reviews the current literature and provides insight into the efficacy and outcomes of these conservative treatments.
