ABSTRACT
Pneumonia, a lower respiratory tract infection with globally significant morbidity and mortality, ranks fourth among the causes of death worldwide. Pneumonia ranks eighth among the most costly diseases in hospitalized patients. According to the treatment approach, it is divided into four groups: pneumonia that develops in the community, pneumonia that develops in the hospital, pneumonia that develops in immunocompromised individuals, and aspiration pneumonia. The role of nurses is very important in improving and protecting the health of individuals both in society and in the hospital, and in the treatment and care process of the disease. A nurse is a member of the healthcare team who has important responsibilities in the prevention of pneumonia risk factors and the treatment and care management of patients, with their roles as caregivers, educators, researchers, managers and consultants. In this context, nursing approaches in the prevention, treatment and care of pneumonia are included in line with the current literature.
