ABSTRACT
The most common gallbladder and biliary tract diseases are cholecystitis, cholelithiasis, functional gallbladder disorder, gallbladder polyps, gallbladder hydrops, porcelain gallbladder, and gallbladder cancer. The most common symptoms of these diseases include pain, nausea-vomiting and jaundice. Treatment of gallbladder diseases includes surgical interventions (especially cholecystectomy) as well as medical treatment. To provide quality and holistic care, nurses must know the anatomy, physiology, and diseases of the gallbladder and bile ducts. Nursing care varies depending on the treatment approach applied to the patient. Care includes pain reduction, compliance with medication and diet (fat-restricted diet), lifestyle changes, pre-operative and post-op care, prevention of complications, and patient education.
