ABSTRACT
Pancreatic diseases include pancreatitis, diabetes mellitus, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, and pancreatic cancer. Acute pancreatitis is an acute inflammation of the pancreas. In acute pancreatitis, sudden onset, persistent, severe epigastric pain is typical. It usually occurs after a heavy meal or alcohol intake. Conservative management primarily concerns hydration, pain management, metabolic complications management, and pancreatic stimulation minimization. Initially, the patient with acute pancreatitis should not take any food by mouth to reduce pancreatic secretion. Patients should be trained to avoid alcohol, which can cause or exacerbate acute or chronic pancreatitis, to avoid enzyme stimulants such as coffee, tea, nicotine, and alcohol, and to consume frequent and small meals rich in carbohydrates and protein. If the patient has diabetes, he/she should be educated about blood glucose monitoring and what to pay attention to when taking medications.
