ABSTRACT

Occupational diseases are recognized as an important health problem today. Occupational contact dermatitis is caused by contact with various physical, chemical and biological substances in the work environment and accounts for 90-95% of occupational skin diseases. The most common occupational contact dermatitis are irritant contact dermatitis (ICD), allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) and contact urticaria. Other types of occupational dermatitis are less common, but prevention measures and treatment are based on the same principle. Occupational contact dermatitis is more common in the 4th decade and in males. The most common type of occupational contact dermatitis is ICD. The hands are affected in 90% of cases of occupational contact dermatitis. The occupational groups where ICD is most common are health, cleaning, hairdressing or occupational groups with exposure to chemicals such as metal working fluids. Allergic contact dermatitis is common in agricultural workers, hairdressers, construction workers, rubber and textile workers. In the management of occupational contact dermatitis, avoidance of irritants and allergens is the main principle in mild cases.
