Although many details of nail diseases can be evaluated with the naked eye, dermoscopy serves as a second microscope for nail changes during routine evaluation in some diseases wich present a diagnostic challenge for dermatologists in daily practice. In recent years, the effectiveness of onychoscopy has been increasing in order to facilitate clinical evaluation of nail diseases, to avoiding from invasive procedures such as culture, biopsy, and also saving time for diagnosis and treatment. This review also aims to summarize the available information on the onychoscopic features of various diseases in the nail unit and to provide practical tips on how to perform the onychoscopy.
