ABSTRACT

Microorganisms are present in large quantities in the oral cavity, as they are everywhere in our lives. There are many different types of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, spirochetes, etc. In fact, the oral cavity is the place where the most variety of microorganisms are found in the human body. There are more than 300 types of bacteria in the oral flora. Bacteria are microorganisms that we frequently encounter in dentistry. They also appear as oral findings of systemic bacterial infections, especially tooth decay and gum disease. Bacteria can cause various findings such as redness, erythema, necrosis and even advanced bone perforations in the mucosa. In addition to these findings, patients usually experience pain, lymphadenopathy, fever, decreased general body resistance, malnutrition and cosmetic problems.

Dental treatments are treatments where secretions and aerosols are frequently spread. Dentists must know bacterial infections and oral findings, and recognize lesions. For both their own safety and the safety of other patients, patients should be referred to relevant places and dental treatments should be performed in accordance with the procedure. In this study, findings of bacterial infections in the oral cavity are discussed.
