ABSTRACT
Management of molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) includes pain and behavioral control as an important stage. Pain management and local anesthesia in children with MIH are very complex due to the nature of the disease. MIH-affected teeth are prone to structural defects, leading to increased sensitivity due to exposed dentinal tubules and alterations in pulpal nerves. Peripheral sensitization, which heightens nociceptor sensitivity, is observed in MIH-affected teeth, complicating management during routine dental examinations and contributing to anesthesia failures. The challenges posed by MIH require comprehensive management strategies, including behavioral techniques to address dental anxiety and fear, which are common in pediatric patients. Effective pain control must incorporate alternative anesthesia methods such as intraosseous or intraligamentary techniques and desensitization treatments, such as remineralizing agents and resin infiltration. In addition to this, the importance of early diagnosis, regular follow-ups, and a multidisciplinary approach to improve the quality of life for MIH-affected children for pain management.
