ABSTRACT

The importance of pain management following orthopaedic surgery has been a growing area of interest in recent years. The dissemination of multimodal pain management strategies is a crucial aspect in the reduction of the impact of opioid use. In the United States, hand surgeons are the third most prolific prescribers of opioids. Pain management is of significant importance in order to guarantee patient adherence to the rehabilitation programme. Patient education constitutes an essential element of the preoperative period. It is important to consider the role of elevation, cold application and compressive bandages in the preoperative and postoperative periods when using non-pharmacological analgesia. The significance of multimodal analgesic techniques in the context of wrist fractures is further underscored, particularly in the aftermath of upper extremity surgical procedures.
