ABSTRACT
This study examines the relationship between occlusal splints—an essential dental and maxillofacial surgical treatment method-and temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). It emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate treatment methods and educating patients. A bibliometric analysis provides valuable insights into the connection between occlusal splints and TMDs. Terms such as “occlusal splints” and “temporomandibular disorders” are among the most prominent in the dental literature, frequently appearing together. This demonstrates that occlusal splints are widely used as a treatment option for TMDs. Treatment is a multifactorial process that includes appropriate splint selection, production, and patient education. The study highlights that occlusal splints can effectively manage temporomandibular joint disorders when the correct treatment methods are applied. It also emphasizes that proper patient use is crucial for the practical effectiveness of splint applications. Additionally, the bibliometric analysis sheds light on the development of research in this field by identifying significant connections and trends in the literature regarding this treatment method.
