ABSTRACT
Newborn babies can present to the pediatric emergency department for various reasons. Newborn diseases can have an insidious onset, and therefore, the patients can decompensate quickly for many reasons. Emergency department visits are associated with severe illness, especially in the first 10 days of life; lots of patients may require hospitalization. It is essential to determine the causes of the current situation and initiate the treatment timely. The initial evaluation of a critically ill newborn should not miss vital signs and symptoms and should determine the newborn’s need for urgent treatment. Therefore, evaluation and management of the newborn requires a systematic approach.
