ABSTRACT
The evaluation of an older adult with cancer has some difficulties and uncertainties, but also it is observed that treatment options and treatment success of elderly patients who underwent Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) may improve. The benefit-harm balance can be maintained in favor of the patient by considering the biological age and functional status of the patient when deciding on surgical treatment. It seems useful to use scales that contain certain parameters of CGA, which can be applied in a shorter time and can determine the cases at risk for complications. In this way, it is possible to determine the cases in which geriatric consultation should be requested for the decision of operation for survival, and the preoperative preparation and postoperative care. During the preoperative evaluation of the patient, a detailed comorbidity and treatment history, adequate physical examination and laboratory tests should be made to make optimal decisions for the patient. With such an evaluation, it is thought that unnecessary or inadequate treatment approaches can be avoided and treatment-related complications can be reduced.
