ABSTRACT
Renovascular diseases occur as a result of an occlusion in the renal artery and its branches or other conditions that reduce its flow. Although the cause is usually atherosclerosis in advanced age, it is fibromuscular dysplasia in younger age. Hypertension occurs because of the activation of the renin angiotensin aldosterone system after general stenosis in the renal arteries. Hypertension at a young age or acute onset at an advanced age, resistant to medical treatment, should suggest renal artery stenosis. Renal Artery Doppler Ultrasound, Renal CT Angiography, and MR Angiography can reveal the pathology. In treatment, as well as multifaceted medical treatment for hypertension regulation, the aim is to open the stenosis with balloon angioplasty/stent placement. Surgical treatment has begun to be avoided with the improvement of endovascular approaches.
