ABSTRACT
Due to the fact that cancer is more frequent in the elderly and multiple comorbidities are seen in older patients, many physical, psychological and social problems are experienced in the geriatric cancer population throughout the course of the disease from the period of diagnosis to the end of life period. Supporting these problems, which may occur due to cancer itself or cancer treatment methods, is very important in increasing the quality of life of these elderly patients and increasing their tolerance to cancer treatment. The supportive care program in these patients is generally based on the same principles as the younger ones. Supportive care in cancer should be considered as a continuous process involving the new diagnosis period of cancer, active treatment period, drug-free follow-up period, refractory disease and end of life period. This article summarizes the importance and principles of supportive care in elderly cancer patients and the approach to common symptoms.
