ABSTRACT
Fractures of the proximal humerus are among the most prevalent types of fractures, especially in older individuals. It is thought that the incidence will gradually increase with the rise in an average age of the populace. While approximately 80% of proximal humerus fractures are managed with conservative methods, the choice of method for fractures indicated for surgical treatment continues to be one of the popular questions sought in the literature. A universally accepted “gold standard” treatment procedure has not been established. Techniques such as fixation through percutaneous methods, open reduction-internal fixation and fixation with intramedullary methods have distinct benefits as well as drawbacks. Factors such as fracture type, patient age, physiological condition, comorbidities, and surgeons’ experience must be considered while selecting a surgical treatment strategy. In conclusion, it would be appropriate to evaluate and make decisions for each patient within their specific conditions in order to improve clinical and functional outcomes.
